Results of the March Guild Project

We had quite a few excellent entries in the Annual Guild Carving Competition. This year our judges were Juan, Linda, and Rosie and our scribe was Geri, big thanks to them for their effort, and congratulations to all who entered their work for us to appreciate.

Results were as follows:
Beginner Category:
1st: Tom V.
2nd: Noreen
Intermediate Category:
1st: Linda
2nd: Geri
3rd: Bob
Advanced Category:
3rd: Juan

This year a George Hurst rose pattern was chosen and all entries utilized the same pattern on a project of each person's choice.

Start giving some thought to what the Annual project should be NEXT YEAR ! ! !

Calumet Area Leathercrafters Guild Show:
April 25, 26, 27th 2008
Mark your calendar so you don't miss this show.

This spring's show will be held at the Holiday Inn in Michigan City, IN. Their last show (2006) was fantastic. They do not offer classes, but instead have demonstrations going on all day Saturday.

Jim Linnell from TLF will be teaching a class for beginners, free of charge.

There will be a "swap meet" after 10:00 PM Saturday night.

Our table for this show will have a desert theme in keeping with the show's title, which is
Spring Into Action - Come Help Us Beat On A Dead Cow
Bring your items you would like to display on the PSLG's table at the show to the April meeting they will be returned to you at the May meeting. Any items you have made with a desert theme (cactus, roar-runner, cow skull, etc . . .) will fit in just fine! ! !

Linda has show packets, mail-in entry deadline is the 15th, so act fast with your entries.

Check below for address and CALG contact information, hope to see you there.

April's Program, 2 Shews, continued:

This month Pat will be finishing up the project started all the way back in January using the 2Shews method of transferring an image onto a leather project.

Remember to bring your incomplete projects to get 'em done!

May Program, Cowboy Hat Key Rings:

Juan will lead a project making adorable miniature cowboy hat key rings. All the secrets will be revealed as to how to form the crown and brim of these nifty little items using tools made from household items. You don't want to miss this one!

Algonquin Area Public Library Demo:
Saturday May 24th, 10:00AM to 4:00PM

Judy has arranged for PSLG members to lead a "walk-in" demo at the library in Algonquin on Saturday,  May 24th. This will be a free program primarily aimed at younger folks and their parents.
Families with children 7 years old and up are invited to drop-in to make a special leather keychain. Drop-in anytime between 10am -4pm. Parents will need to stay and help younger children.

Event is being publicized on the AAPL website. Click here to see the listing on the AAPL website.

Times will be from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

If you are able to help out with this demo please contact Judy ASAP. The more PSLGers we have at events like this one, the better we're able to "Spread the word" about our group and the good work we do to foster and promote the art of leathercraft. These events are important to the future of the PSLG, why not take an afternoon and help out your guild?

Down The Road:

Bob C. has graciously agreed to be the Show Chairman for the upcoming
PSLG 2009 SPRING SHOW
We are all looking forward to hosting next year's spring show, and many members have already volunteered for many of the various jobs that will need to be done to make our show a success.

The show committee is currently researching a location for the show, if you have any suggestions, please bring it up a meeting.

Another thing we, as a group, need to decide upon is a theme for the show. A few suggestions were bandied about at March's meeting, but we are still open for suggestions. Put on your thinking caps and let's come up with a great theme for our show. Bring your ideas to a meeting, or e-mail them to Linda or Judy.
